Alfa Romeo Giulia GT50 Concept is a Modern Reinterpretation of Bertone's Classic Sprint GT

|

For the time being, Alfa Romeo may be tangled in the ever-changing puzzle that is the Fiat-Chrysler group product plan, but there's certainly something about the brand that ignites automotive stylists’ inspiration.

With the Alfa Romeo Giulia 50GT Concept, Rome-based Italian designers Michele Di Mauro and Claudio Piccioli who run the GetShaped Studio have re-imagined the Giulia Sprint GT penned by Bertone.

Apart from bringing the classic Alfa coupe into the 21st century, the two designers wanted to celebrate the studio’s centenary as well as the model’s 50th anniversary (hence the “50” in the name).

The two studies, a GT-oriented and a sportier, more aggressive version (the red and the grey-colored examples respectively) remain faithful to the overall concept of the original Giulia, retaining its large circular headlamps and oversized Alfa “shield” at the front, as well as the hood air vent.

On the other hand, bringing the shape forward half a century means certain changes are necessary. The 50GT’s shape is defined by sharp edges at both ends, while the car's profile is very “clean” save for the air outlet behind the front wheels.

Di Mauro and Piccioli have kept the dimensions compact, with the concept being 4.05 meters long, 1.88 meters wide and 1.19 meters high and featuring a 2.42 m wheelbase.

Were it to be built, it would be powered by Alfa Romeo’s existing 1750 TBi turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 235HP, which according to the two designers, would allow for a top speed exceeding 250 km/h (155 mph).

looks like it would be on the challenger platform lol, that would be interested i think that front end looks a bit much but these lines look like an alfa version of the challenger might be cool if it was cleaned up some

Simple design for the most part but front needs some cleaning up. i could see this as a custom build from a coach builder. love the greenhouse design

Seriously difficult to imagine how that car could be any uglier.

Too extreme in many ways for a production car, but an interesting direction to explore for a concept. Maybe some of it could be translated into a practical production car. The original Giulia Sprint GT obviously did not sacrifice for function unnecessarily for form.

I love every other car Alfa romeo designs. All of them seems to be romeos but this one is a ugly duckling as far as visual appeal goes. Their cars were almost perfect as far as design standard & visual appeal goes and hence they reached a stagnant point where they were not much to improve upon it rather than to adopt a utterly different design itself. But this one is a disgrace for all Alfa romeo designers

LOL! Funny! (Does anyone actually understand what he's saying?...)

I don't know what's with all the degitivity - it wasn't designed to be a production car or Alfa's Challenger, but as a modern version of one of the most classic of cars ever made. 'Nuff said.

Charger/Challenger platforms would be way to big. You would wind up with a bloated overweight over sized car like Camaro. An Alfa sport coupe should be BMW 1series in size, perhaps with more usable rear seat.
