Chevrolet's SEMA-Bound Malibu Turbo Performance Concept Looks the Part

|

Chevrolet is promising to display its "broadest-ever range of performance and personalization choices" at the upcoming 2012 SEMA Show that starts on October 30 and runs through November 2.

Following a recent announcement on its customized small car range, the Detroit automaker is now sharing its performance-oriented vision of the new 2013 Malibu Turbo with a new concept.

The sported-up study is named the Malibu Turbo Performance Concept and it's based on the fastest production Malibu ever, which in stock guise, is motivated by a 2.0-liter force-fed four generating 259 horsepower for a 0 to 60 mph (100km/h) sprint in 6.3 seconds and a maximum speed of 155 mph (250km/h).

The concept is featured in a Berlin Blue Tricoat exterior paint and is given a more aggressive look through a ground effects package that includes a front splitter, rocker panels, rear diffuser and a boot-mounted wing.

The aero package works together with new 20-inch alloys shod in Pirelli PZero 255/35ZR20 tires, custom lower grille and fog lamp grilles with red surrounds, clear tail lamp lenses and turbo badges.

Inside, Chevy tells us (but doesn't share any images) the Malibu is fitted with RECARO sport seats trimmed in Jet Black leather and Navy Blue suede with red accent stitching, with the same materials and colors also found on the flat-bottom steering wheel, door panels and instrument panel.

Performance modifications include a HiPer Strut front suspension and rear springs, six-piston front brake calipers with two-piece cross-drilled rotors and a prototype cold-air intake system, which the carmaker says can help the 2.0L engine make more power without releasing any specific numbers.

Chevrolet added that aside from the small cars and the Malibu concepts, its SEMA Show booth will also play host to a 2014 Impala Concept, and several Corvette and Camaro concepts noting that "their details are being kept under wraps until the show opens".

Lose the red trim around the fog lights and the "Malibu" sticker.  Makes it look childish.

I still hate the C-pillar and the tail lights, but I love most everything else.
The lower front fascia has a tad too much VW? Checkout the sketches of the most recent refresh of the Phaeton. One modernizing element would be to not have separated port holes for the fog lights and lower bumper opening but to make them all integrated, like BMW's 3 series or VW's Jetta's. Another would be to abandon the two-lamp tail-lamp setup, Chevrolet has proven it cannot make a modern design using this setup it has on every one of its cars so please dump it!
