The first Dacia model to be made available in the United Kingdom, the Duster SUV, has surpassed the 1,000 pre-order mark in the country, three months before it launches in showrooms, according to the Renault Group’s Romanian brand.

Dacia said that it is essential to point out that this number has been achieved “before a single buyer has driven a right-hand-drive UK-specification car on British soil”.

The automaker noted that five of the top-selling 10 Dacia dealers so far are located in Scotland and Wales, with Midlands, South, North East and North West filing the other five places.

The pre-order books for the Duster opened on June 28, with first deliveries scheduled for January 2013. The compact model starts at £8,995 OTR for the two-wheel drive variant, which makes it the cheapest car in its segment,  while the AWD version begins at £10,995 OTR.

“We always knew Dacia had the potential to tap into a stagnant UK new car market,” commented Dacia’s Marketing Director, Phil York. “Our Duster flagship is off to a great start even before we’ve received our first right-hand-drive shipment.”

Dacia also revealed that Renault’s Indian subsidiary, where the UK’s Dusters will be manufactured, has already received 20,000 orders of its own in just three months.
