Spy Shots: Get a Close Look at a Thinly Veiled 2013 Skoda Octavia

|

Over the past few days, we have shared with you two spy videos of the new generation Skoda Octavia, which is due to be revealed online in November ahead of a world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 2013.

Needless to explain why, video footage of a car traveling on a highway can't offer the same details provided by a close up with a high-quality camera, which is where our spy shooters step in.

These latest scoop pictures afford us our best view of the new Octavia to date, allowing us to decipher reality from illusion, and by illusion, we mean the crafty decals placed on the headlights, the fog lamps, the upper bar of the front grille, the C-column and the rear combination lights by Skoda's people to trick us.

The best way to describe the shape, proportions and styling of the third iteration of the Octavia is a more modern interpretation of the current model with some sharper details here and there such as the front end and the profile window line.

The pictures also confirm that the Octavia Mk3 has grown in size to better fit in Skoda's renewed automobile range that now includes the compact Rapid.

As we have already told you before, the new Octavia will be the first Skoda model to use the VW Group's MQB platform architecture as well as the new petrol and diesel engines that it has developed to go with it, including a 1.4-liter TSI with a cylinder deactivation system.

Later on, Skoda will enhance the range with an estate model as well as the flagship RS (vRS in the United Kingdom) variants powered by the Golf GTI's 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.

Be good to see the finished product. I currently drive a MK2 Octavia Scout and it's one of the best cars I have driven in this class. Comments such as "rubbish VW design" don't explain why the Octavia has been such a good seller, and is liked by a lot of people. Maybe if it had an Audi badge and a higher price tag people wouldn't be so quick with the harsh comments! For most people though, it's the practicality, cost and all round package that count, not whether it'll win in the beauty stakes, which in this case isn't really all THAT bad!

WOW! That's incredible-looking! I like the Skoda business model: Take a 17-year old VW Passat design, add an ugly grill, change one or two angles here or there, and you have the ALL-NEW 2013 Skoda Octavia!
