2013 Toyota RAV4: Another Round of Photos Hit the Web!

|

The all-new 2013 Toyota RAV4 SUV is a secret no more, at least as far as its exterior and interior looks are concerned, after a second set of photos made their way across the internet.

We'll remind you that earlier today, we shared a first batch of pictures of Toyota's next compact crossover, which will rival the likes of the latest Honda CR-V, Ford Escape (Kuga in Europe) and Subaru Forester (just to mention a few of its competitors) on a global level.

The new RAV4 adopts the more modern and to some extent, sharper aesthetics from Toyota's latest models, such as the U.S. Camry and especially the European / JDM Auris series, with the interior design also following suite.

There's nothing official yet from Toyota on the 2013 RAV4's specifications, and unless the Japanese carmaker decides to release the information early, we will have to wait until its world premiere at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday, November 28, to find out more.

Definitely some Santa Fe action going on round that D-pillar; but I'm glad they got rid of the spare wheel.

that interior looks like a cheap plastic nightmare, the outside is nice

Toyota turned an OK design which could easily have been modernized, into something corporate and ugly. Mark my words, that front is not going to sell.

lol your joking right? "Toyota" turned something into a corporate design where have you been the past few decades

A nice update to a dated design. More modern exterior lines, but I'm not so sure about the interior. I'll reserve my final judgement until after the L.A. Auto show debut when more pictures and info will be available.

Looks like chinese GreatWall car...

If it weren't for the LCD screen, I would have mistaken that dashboard for something from 1992. The exterior is nice, mostly. But it wouldn't be a Toyota if I didn't loathe something about the styling. In this case, the front end—and that tragic dashboard.

Meh.

That is all.

conclusion: Ugly!

You said ! You notice the mismatch between the door and the dashboard !!!
So old...Can I play to Pac-man on this screen ?

I somewhat agree with the interior, but I think it will be a different experience in person. When it comes to living environments, function over form works inside cars; people don't necessarily crave high style inside their cars like Hyundai's freak show interiors offers.

I like the interior the more I look at it. It reminds me that I am sitting in a machine not a hotel room.

I have come to the conclusion that the majority of people who comment on the design of this new vehicle have no idea what good automotive design is. This is a giant leap forward for Toyota in my eyes. Just look at the current success of the new Mazda CX-5 and Ford Escape. This is where crossover design is right now. Sleek and car-like. Not boxy and truck-like, like old out-going models.

That's funny and true.

After having my Lexus GS 300 for 13 years my wife and I were considering a Toyota Prius V hybrid (we just have a little bundle of joy). But if this Toyota RAV 4 looks as good as it does excluding the interior, I will consider this vehicle only if you came in a hybrid and hopefully got over 40 miles per gallon.

Looks like every other small SUV, and a lot like the Escape from the C pillar back! What happened to originality?

emjayay said... »November 27, 2012

Yeah, oddly linear for a modern car. And yes, the door and dash have nothing to do with each other.

emjayay said... »November 27, 2012

I guess as long as the airbags work you can have a metal ridge at the top of the dashboard, just like fifty plus years ago. And make it shiny metal so everyone notices. Still not very reassuring. Oh, and the oddly very unsymmetrical console doesn't match the dashboard either. Overall, it reminds me of the interiors Chrysler recently got rid of, except less symmetrical and coordinated.
