If you happened to watch the following surveillance footage released by the Wellesley (Massachusetts) MA Police Department without knowing the story, you would probably be scratching your head trying to figure out where the heck did that SUV come from; and rightly so, as it appears that the vehicle came flying into a line of cars from nowhere land.

The driver of the SUV was emergency room doctor Kristin Howard, 56, who was named ‘Doctor of the Year’ at Newtown-Wellesley Hospital in 2009.

According to the police report obtained by the Boston Channel, Howard was drunk and on drugs when she tried to drive out of the Whole Foods Market on Washington Street on Tuesday morning.

The highly intoxicated doctor first hit a van, then put her vehicle in reverse and hit a fence a couple more times before she went full speed ahead across the parking lot, hitting a post that sent the SUV into the air and onto a Mercury Marquis, which then crashed into a dump truck.

The driver of the Mercury, 78-year-old Paul McDonald of Wellesley, suffered two broken ribs bones from the impact.

As for the doctor, her lawyer told reporters that she was “struggling to deal with a sick mother”. The 56-year old woman was arrested by police for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, but was released on “personal recognizance”. She was also suspended from her hospital duties pending an investigation on the incident.
