Following the new Forester’s launch in Japan, its world premiere at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China, and just before it makes its North American premiere at this week’s LA Auto Show, Subaru has confirmed the first details about the European market model that will go on sale in the UK in the summer of 2013.

Right from the get go, the fourth-generation Forester will be offered with three boxer engines including a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter petrol delivering 148bhp (150PS), a 2.0-liter diesel rated for 148bhp (150PS) and a range-topping sport model powered by a 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged petrol good for 276hp (280PS).

Subaru said that the 148bhp diesel and petrol units will feature a six-speed manual transmission as standard, while the firm’s Lineartronic (CVT) transmission will be available on both petrol engines.

The Japanese carmaker didn’t divulge any more details, but we assume that just like the U.S. and JDM models, the 2.0-liter Turbo will be offered only with a CVT.

“Since the Forester’s launch in 1997, it has gained a loyal following across the UK for its rugged, go anywhere abilities and these developments will ensure it remains a firm SUV favourite,” said Haydn Davies, Marketing Director, Subaru UK. “The fourth-generation Forester will feature the latest All-Wheel Drive system and Boxer engines, while a lot of work has gone into improving refinement, ride quality and safety.”

The Japanese carmaker said it will release more information on the European market Forester in the new year.
