U Spy: 2013 Skoda Octavia Mk3 Caught Naked in Chile!

|

Just hours after we showed you our speculative take on the 2013 Skoda Octavia III through Josh Byrne's rendering, CarScoop reader Nicholas W. emailed us this picture he shot in Santiago, the capital city of Chile, earlier today.

From what we understand, Skoda was on site to photograph both the sedan, which is seen here with only the brand's logo on the bonnet being masked up, as well as the estate variant that can be viewed parked in the depth.

The new Octavia's design is heavily influenced by the VisionD concept car, albeit with a much longer rear overhang that creates the illusion of a sedan body (the new model keep its predecessor's five-door hatchback layout with a rear tailgate).

It's not only the skin that's fresh on the third generation Octavia but its underpinnings too, as the compact model rides on the VW Group's brand new MQB platform (shared with vehicles such as the VW Golf 7, Audi A3 and Seat Leon) that will likely result in a weight reduction despite an increase in size.

We also expect the German group to offer their latest turbocharged engines on the new Octavia, including the 1.4-litre TSI 138hp (140PS) with Active Cylinder Technology and 1.2-litre TSI 104hp (105PS) petrols and the 1.6-litre TDI 104hp (105PS) and 2.0-litre TDI 148hp (150PS) diesels, together with a selection of manual and dual-clutch DSG transmissions.

Many thanks to Nicholas W. for sending in the scoop!

Wow its soooooo different from any other Skoda model on the current range..............NOT! I mean seriously you must be stupid to go out of your way to buy one of these over a Seat Leon, Alfa Gulietta, or Renault Megane. Totally Stupid.

P.S to Americans, Seat, Renault, and Alfa Romeo are not IMAGINARY brands.

I like it... Looks similar to Audi a4 B6 :)

You have no idea what you're talking about.
Nobody will cross shop Octavia with Giulietta or even Leon. Much like the Golf, Octavia has it's place and it's one of the last few decent and fair cars out there. It's roomy, cheap to buy and to run, well built and so on.
It doesn't need to be different from the previous generation or any other Skoda model, it just needs a minor refresh and it will be a success.

If you take a closer look, in the background there's the combi wagon version.

Wooow. Looks exactly like every other Skoda, and no Skoda's don't look good.

Sébastien said... »November 19, 2012

You're right, Giulietta is nicer on the outside, but has poor interior quality compared to Skodas. Leon, same story ... at least until the new model.

Skoda is for those who want the best bang for the bucks, if you dont need hightech accessories it's better than regular VW (and far better on many aspects than Seat)

Skoda are for those wont dont care about how their car appear from outside, but prefer nice and comfy interiors (with the same powertrains found on VW).

"It's roomy, cheap to buy and to run, well built and so on."

That was then and this is now.

Why do you think there is a new rapid model?

Watch the price hike on this larger same old Octavia.

S TECH said... »November 19, 2012

Oh really, so your telling me that Skoda went out of their way to create a piece of boring (but well built) piece of Sh!t like this?

europeon said... »November 19, 2012

The Rapid is targeted to compete with Dacia Logan (Eastern Europe and other poor markets), I doubt Octavia prices will rise because it's still a low end car but for much wealthier markets (Western Europe).

Well, obviously. It didn't just appear on the CEO's desk one day! A lot of planning and development would've gone into making this "piece of boring but well built piece of sh!t" I personally think it looks neat, evolutionary - and in that, it won't alienate its many, many current customers

Very nice

But you can admit this Skoda is step big forward. Isn't it?

Why the hell would I want to spend MORE money on a car that has LESS space than the Octavia? Do any Volkswagens look any different to each other? Mazdas? BMWs? Mercs? Audis? Yeah, I thought so...

The Guilietta interior quality (let alone the rest of the car) is crap. The Leon is the same car underneath as the Octavia yet costs more money and has less space. Don't even get me started on the Megane. The Octavia has a 560 litre boot (sure to be bigger with the new model). You are absolutely stupid.

Oh and by the way, I own a 2008 Octavia RS 2.0TFSI and I chose it over a VW Golf, VW Passat, Mazda3 and Mazda6, Ford Focus, Ford Mondeo and Citroen C4 because it offered vastly more car for the money, as well as much higher equipment levels, much more performance and more all-round ability than any of those cars.

The Rapid starts at £12.5k in the UK. I would suggest that the Logan will be significantly cheaper model by model.

VW group have also said that they are interested in having a brand to compete with Dacia.

Isn't the Skoda then.

Sébastien said... »November 20, 2012

About budget and overall quality Seat is more "low end" than Skoda, dont mistake the two...

europeon said... »November 20, 2012

I don't really think so. Just look at the prices they sell Seats and Skodas for.

Alex said... »November 20, 2012

Technologically, probably, if it has innovations from VW under the skin, but let's not forget that skin :)
