It’s not the most appropriate time of the year weather-wise to launch a convertible model in the Northern hemisphere, but nevertheless, Volkswagen has released pricing and is accepting orders for the open-top version of the latest Beetle in its home market of Germany, with more European countries to follow.
The new Beetle Convertible has a starting price of €21,350 (equal to US$27,100) for the base model with the 1.2-liter TSI petrol engine that produces 104hp (105PS), rising to €27,950 (US$35,500) for the 138hp (140PS) 2.0-liter TDI diesel connected to a dual-clutch DSG transmission.
Other engine options in Europe include a 158hp (160PS) 1.4-liter TSI petrol and the 104Hp (105PS) 1.6-liter TDI. Later on, VW will expand the range with a 197hp (200PS) 2.0-liter TSI.
All of these motors can be combined with an optional dual clutch transmission (six-or seven-speed DSG).
Buyers can spice up the Beetle Convertible with three decade-specific styling packages inspired by the 50s, 60s and 70s, while VW also offers R-Line packages for the interior and exterior of the car priced from €1,305.
The new Beetle Convertible will celebrate its world premiere at this month’s Los Angeles Auto Show, with North American sales to begin before the end of the year.
