In September, Apple decided to ditch Google Maps from its iOS 6 iPhone operating system in favor of its own navigation app. From a commercial point of view, it surely makes sense to promote your own products instead of those of your rivals.
Obviously, the folks at Cupertino should have ensured that their map app was accurate before making it the sole option for iOS6 users. In Australia, police have gone as far as to warn drivers of using Apple's map app.
Police in Mildura, a city in northwestern Victoria, Australia, are urging motorists to be very careful when using their iPhones for guidance. That’s because, as tests conducted by the police itself have proved, Apple’s map places Mildura…70 km (43 miles) away from its actual location.
What’s more, it directs users to the middle of the Murray Sunset National Park, where there’s no water supply and temperatures can reach 46 degrees Celcius (115 degrees Fahrenheit)!
To make things even worse, cell phone reception is hit-and-miss. Well, what did you expect in a national park in the middle of nowhere?
Some of the motorists recovered by the local police have been there for up to 24 hours with no food or water and walked for hours to get phone reception.
Police have already contacted Apple and informed them about the issue. They also advise anyone traveling not only to Mildura but also anywhere within the state of Victoria to rely on other forms of mapping for the time being…

Love it! With all the talk surrounding the use of Apple's map you'd think people would go elsewhere?
well in apple's defence, its their customer's fault to purchase a crap phone in the first place..

But I thought everything Apple did was perfect? The fanboys will be crushed!

Apparently, the data has been sourced back to the Australian Government!
All maps contain errors and problems, Apple just needs to meet better standards.
