With a population in excess of 1.3 billion and a booming economy, something tells us that Audi won't have much of a problem finding 80 buyers interested in its limited run R8 China Edition that was built exclusively for the country featured in its name.
In what will likely sound odd to the ears of Westerners, the cars will be numbered from 1 to 99, and that's because Chinese consider 4 an unlucky number, so Audi decided to eliminate it.
"To respect the cultural habit of Chinese customers, all numbers with 4 are removed from the serial numbers 1-99," the carmaker said in its press blurb.
The China Edition is based off the pre-facelift R8 V10 borrowing exterior and interior elements from the friskier GT, such as the front bumper winglets, alloy wheel designs, the carbon fiber mirrors, rear wing and the part leather, part Alcantara interior with carbon fiber trimmings.
Power is provided by a 5.2-liter V10 FSI engine rated for 511hp (518PS) and 530Nm (391 lb-ft) that takes the R8 China Edition to 100km/h (62mph) from standstill in 3.9 seconds.

The word 4 in chinese sounds simlar to die/dead in chinese, that why they remove it because some people are very superstitious.
The Chinese edition R8 looks pretty sweet. I wish I could go to China and buy one. I sure hope Audi makes an American edition.
A China edition! Now that's original
Actually to say the least, a lot of the rich folks in China -are- superstitious.
Good lord... this reminds me of that dragon edition that Rolls Royce did a while back.
