Watch a Tug of War Between a VW Touareg V10 TDI and a Chevrolet Silverado Duramax V8

|

It seems that pickup truck owners throughout the country have a thing for competing in amateur pulling contests.

Only a couple of weeks ago, we witnessed the finesse, skill, and let's not forget, the…ahem…sportsmanship between two drivers in a Chevrolet Silverado and a diesel-powered Dodge Ram Cummins battling it out on a parking lot before they moved on to challenge each other in a traditional fist fight.

So, what do we have in this video, that was brought to our attention by reader Patrick K.?

Well, on one side of the road is a Chevrolet Silverado HD fitted with a Duramax V8 turbo diesel, which if made between 2007 and 2010, produces 365hp at 3,200 rpm and 660 lb-ft (894Nm) of torque at 1,600 rpm, while if it's a 2011 or 2012MY, 397hp at 3,000 rpm and 765 lb-ft (1,036Nm) at 1,600 rpm.

It's German challenger is a first generation Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI, with its 5.0-liter turbocharged diesel rated for 309hp (313PS) at 3,750 rpm and 553 lb-ft (749Nm) at 2,000 rpm.

Before we leave you to enjoy the pulling challenge, let us note that, while the Touareg V10 TDI comes with standard all-wheel drive, it looks like this Silverado is a RWD model (AWD is offered optionally).

Thanks to Patrick for the video find!

How about adding some weight in the bed of the pickup.
Is VW Touareg ALL-WHEEL-DRIVE by any chance?

Kaveh Ghavim said... »December 28, 2012

Of course it is All Wheel drive.

They pulled a 747 with that VW on Fifth gear with the V10, the Chevy had no chance.

It looks to me that the Chevy didn't have it's 4 wheel drive engaged. When the VW started pulling, I think it took some of the weight off the rear wheels and then it lost traction. Engage the 4WD and I think you'd see a different outcome. That's if the 4WD WASN'T engaged.

plus the VW has better dry pavement traction, compared to the off road tires

Good God this redneck accent is atrocious.

Poor compensating Chevy man bro is put to shame.

Why do people move the camera away just when the action really starts?

VW POWER...!

Amazing and hilarious.

I think it was, but what happened is that when the Touareg pulled, it just hopped, so even though all four tyres were moving, the two with slightly decreased traction were less in-contact with road.

I'm not 100%, but that's my view of it.

Enjoyed watching that, though.

hahaha don't fuck with germans

There's no accounting for technique here either. Once one vehicle gets the jump on the other and the other vehicles' tires start sliding they lose traction. If the truck had punched it and broke the VW's traction you would have seen the opposite.

tkindred said... »December 29, 2012

What about adding that same weight to the VW?

tkindred said... »December 29, 2012

The VW had to overcome the pulling force the truck already had on it. If the truck had "punched it" it would have even been close to a fair comparison.

Ridiculous. Try with a Amarok...

Yeah, true.

A Chevy Duramax cannot complete with the Low End torque that a VW motor produces. The Chevy would have had a better chance in the dirt.

wrong, it's great to fuck with Germans, doggy, 44, 69, you name it man, they got them all, and more.

The big advantage of the Tuareg is traction control and a better suspension, on the contrary the Chevy just jumps and slides wich is bad for traction.
That proves that skilful engineering is better than brut force.

haha... the only thing gas-guzzling pickup trucks are good for is to burn gas and drive the price of gas up. Useless pieces of crap....

It's obvious the lady laughing in the video is in favor of the vehicle that still looks like a grocery getting house-whore mover no matter the mechanical advantage it had. Default score for the Nazis company this time.

"you know you're a redneck..."

and so does everyone else.

What you are seeing here is modern suspension technology showing its superiority to the oldrudimentary suspension technology. The Chevrolet had enough traction (that's why it hopped), but the suspension was rubbish. In fact, the suspension is rubbish on most American cars, it's just that its flaws aren't apparent in daily driving.

That Chevy looks like a cool scale toy, but it's ridiculous for real life! Grow up! ...or not! ;)

Dumblikeyou2, I suppose u chose the title when you were talking to a bacteria? Thats why the US auto industry needed bail out and still does not know the difference between a driving sofa for your double wide and a technological working piece of art. Suspension has little to do with it, tires some little bit, but he biggest is getting the kinetic energy on to the axel. Meaning good engin setup, differential and intelligent know how (made in Germany)! In 5 years even you'll be glad to by a Chevy made by BMW ;)
