Actor Danny Glover Joins Activists in Protesting Against Nissan at the Detroit Show

|

He might be 66 years old but, apparently, he ain’t "too old for this s**t". Actor Danny Glover will join community leaders from the state of Mississippi who will come to Detroit on Monday, January 14, the opening press day at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, to protest against Nissan.

The actor, who is also an activist since attending university, and the rest of the protesters are renouncing the Japanese carmaker’s treatment of its workers at its Canton Vehicle Assembly plant as “unfair”.

“With Nissan, you have to look beneath the shine”, said Reverend Isiac Jackson, president of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississsippi in a statement last Friday. “Nissan builds great vehicles, but the company should respect the rights and dignity of its workforce”.

UAW President Bob King welcomed his new allies in the union’s efforts to organize workers in Nissan’s U.S. facilities: “The UAW is glad to have a partner organization that is standing up for Nissan workers… Workers have had to endure months of meetings during work time where they only hear the employer’s anti-union views.”

Nissan spokesperson David Reuter responded that the allegations of “unfair” treatment are unfounded and the workers at the Mississippi plant, which has been chosen to build the next-generation of the Murano crossover, are amongst the highest-paid workers in the state.

“Nissan employees have voted overwhelmingly in the past to reject union representation”, said Reuter, “and just as with past efforts, the UAW’s current campaign has received little interest among employees.”

Danny Glover needs to reason for everyone to remember he is alive. Nissan brought jobs and they complain?

What UAW socialist lying tools, I got an idea, Nissan can close that factory and move it to Mexico, because Americans don't seem to mind buying American cars made in Mexico(so I presume that they won't mind buying Nissans made in Mexico). Maybe Mr. Glover or that smartass reverent have solutions for them.

Also, no religious leader has the right to speak about human rights or dignity, since most religions keep telling people to be sorry for that and that they are worthless, insignifiant creatures at the will of some invisible guy who lives in the sky.

It's part of Bob King's efforts to force unionization of foreign automakers moving to the US. They don't care if they lie, they don't care if they ruin another's image, their intentions are "noble" and they're fighting the injustice of not having union representation at BMW, Mercedes, VW, Nissan, etc.

The hypocrisy of the ingrates is troubling. How many Americans does Danny Glover employ? What are Danny Glover's efforts to produce films in his home state to keep revenue there instead of relocating to a more tax-friendly state? Does he pay the highest tax rate he can afford? Does he only attend charities where there is a red carpet or only donates to politically correct movements that are in vogue amongst the hollywood elite?

I can't stand the hypocrisy, but the absence of gratitude is even more troubling. Those people of Canton are competing with Mexico, Vietnam, China, Turkey, and many other places, and Nissan chooses to give back to its biggest market and the Danny Glover types protest against "injustice." What a world.

I liked the Juke before, but now I love it. Going to get one tomorrow, as we can't buy on Sunday.

Nissan has squashed all attempts at unionizing it's factories. Research Smyrna where the workers have been a little more vocal over the years. The comment about this not receiving much interest is probably true as the company line is anti-union and most workers are just happy to be employed in one of the highest paid jobs in the State.
