Celebrities to Race New Mazda6 on the Sidelines of the 2013 F1 Australian GP

|

As part of a large-scale promotion for the launch of the new Mazda6 in Australia, the Japanese carmaker is organizing the star-packed Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge, which will take place during the 2013 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in the middle of March.

Mazda said it plans to have 20 "big name celebrities" behind the wheels of an equal number of cars, each of which will come in different body and racing livery colors.

Celebrities already announced for the Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge include Britain's eleven-time world champion and a winner of a total of seven Olympic Games medals, Sir Chris Hoy, former Collingwood player Chris Tarrant, model Rachel Finch, model and part time amateur boxer Ruby Rose, and celebrity chef Shane Delia.

"We couldn't be happier with the sporty design of the Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge cars," said Mazda Australia marketing manager, Alastair Doak.

"Our plan was to come up with a race livery that complemented the Mazda6's KODO design and which made the cars stand out and I'm confident that we've achieved both. We're now very close to having our full roster of 20 confirmed celebrity drivers and with less than 50 days until the start of the Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge, we're looking forward to going racing," he added.

Confirmed drivers for the 2013 Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge include:

  • Sir Chris Hoy MBE
  • Matthew Cowdrey OAM
  • Anna Meares OAM
  • Em Rusciano
  • Mark Beretta
  • Rachel Finch
  • Shane Delia
  • Chris Tarrant
  • Ruby Rose

Could they pick a more random car for a celebrity race? Anyway, I hope these Mazda 6's aren't as hopeless as the ones that failed to survive till nightfall in last weekend's Rolex 24.

Just had a close look at local Mazda dealer. And it's absolutely stunningly beatiful in real life. Best looking car on the market. Didn't plan to buy but reconsidered after seing it live. The new engines are delivering amazing mileages according to media.
