We don't know when exactly Lexus was planning to share official photos of its hotly anticipated IS, but today, we discovered a full set of images of the executive compact sedan, less than a week before the car's public debut at the Detroit auto show.
These images [now in higher-resolution] afford us our first unobstructed view of the Japanese carmaker's third attempt to rival the BMW 3-Series, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Audi A4.
The model seen here is an F Sport variant (not to be confused with the high-performance IS F), which means it features an aerodynamic kit, taller alloy wheels, a bespoke finish for the grille, a lowered suspension and tuned chassis along with a sportier trimmed interior, while keeping the same powerplant(s) as the regular IS.
Besides the styling that resembles the LF-CC coupe concept, we know that the new IS rides on a longer wheelbase offering improved interior space and that in North America, it will launch with a choice of two V6 units, a 2.5-liter and a stronger 3.5-liter, with a four-cylinder hybrid powerplant to be added in the near future.
Thanks to Bruno R. for the heads up on the HD pics!

This looks really nice, and it does reflect the LF-CC Concept quite a bit. One thing I loved about the 1st generation Lexus IS was the Watch-like Speedometer, I see this third generation harkens back to that. The spindle grill is even better integrated on this than any other Lexus. Nice. Now i just hope the Coupe version just does not become a two-door model of this. It should at least have a lower and more rakish roof line.
I'm afraid the side profile of the tail-light design has killed it for me.
I'm skeptical that this is the production model. It's a bit too concept-like. With that said, it's gorgeous and I'm hoping they don't change a thing for production. Those tail lights are sexy! Best execution of their new design language.
Bring it on!!!!!!!!
The rear end is striking but beauty may not be the right word.
wow this is gorgeous, I hate lexus cars their boring pretentious, way to much cheap shiny vinyl on their interiors but this thing looks amazing. Kinda looks like a concept though especially for a brand like Lexus...i guess we will see
actually the more I look at it, it looks like the current is with a body kit....
i agree, it looks saggy. such a same though.
Just awful. It's incredible how Toyota keeps upping the ante in ugly, horribly designed cars. BMW, Audi, Cadillac and Mercedes are laughing themselves silly right now.
It has some nice design features such as the line that curves up from the door sill to meet the rear lights to the aggressive front end. overall its not boring, but far from a stunner. The rear lights look "saggy" from the side, like a slip of the pencil when sketching, and the front lights took like the were dissected and someone tried to put them back together again but decided that a separated look was much better. the daytime running lights really look odd separated from the main lights and although it may not look as aggressive, a single unit would have given a more cohesive feel. those are my thoughts on the design anyway. still, they are heading in the right direction.
this is so....disgusting
squeeze the corners of your moth together, look in wavy mirror - same effect
Headlights and running lights look pretty tacky I think.
The only reason why it is unconvincing to me is because Lexus is trying hard to make the thing look excessively aggressive, while its performance does not reflect the same. The plush interiors are soft and pretentious.. I'll never be able to get my mind to sync with what I see. Does the car feel tight and sport.. hell No. The Sports mode is a joke on these vehicles and the response in each of the modes isn't utterly clear neither is it responsive. I fail to understand why Lexus doesn't get it.. and thus no wonder why the sales are diminishing. A german car is king thus, not because it deserves it, it is because the other brands failed themselves at being natural.
i love the interior but not the exterior
cant believe they bring that jap market shitty grill to their premium brand
It does look like the LF-CC concept but with a small difference: the concept was beautiful, this is fugly.
...it so .....beutiful!!!! (i have is 200 )
And you know that the only thing on the car that killed it for me, but the rest I really like.
Well the intentions wasn't to stray away from the original formula.
The design is dramatic, it respect the language being used in the concept car. i like every bit except the side of that tail light (that extension is a bit too long)
I thought it was a new Kizashi.
Well idk if you've driven the new GS, probably not, but its a better car than the latest 5 without a doubt. They're newer cars are driving like old bmws, while bmws drive more and more like lexus. Sales diminishing? Well after the tsunami, id say their recovering a decent rate
