Britain, like the rest of Europe, is facing a recession. Gulf States’ economies, on the other hand, are growing by around 6 percent a year. Add in the fact that the latter are the single largest producer of crude oil in the world and you can easily see why exotic supercars are flying out of the showrooms.
In Dubai, there’s a 20-month waiting list for the US$525,000 Lamborghini Aventador. It’s not just the Lambo: in the Gulf region, there’s every kind of supercar you can think of – and then some more.
Once a year, in the summer, many young affluent Arabs fly their hot wheels 3,000 miles away to London so that they can enjoy certain things that are forbidden in their homeland.
The UK capital is literally swarmed by a supercar brigade, much to the joy of car funs and “carparazzi” who use their cameras or smartphones to capture images and/or videos of them.
Ferrari Enzos, Porsche Carrera GTs, Koenigseggs, Bugatti Veyrons, Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLRs; you name it and it’s there. It’s a supercar lover’s paradise…
There are some Londoners, though, who are not so amused by the supercar invasion. The residents of certain high-class areas, such as Knightsbridge, strongly object to “millionaire boy racers” revving their cars, claiming that they break speed limits and make too much noise, to the point that they disrupt their peaceful sleep.
By their own admission, they are campaigning against this Arab “invasion” and they have approached not only the local authorities, but also the Parliament urging politicians to do something about it.
An article in the Daily Mail, that bastion of British ethics and unbiased journalism, proudly displayed as “evidence” is titled “Invasion of the Bling-ionaires”. Its subtitle reads as follows:
"Their gaudy supercars –flown by private jet- clog the streets outside Harrods as they shop for jewels at £20 million a time. Meet Britain’s jaw-droppingly ostentatious tourists."
Speeding in a residential area is surely a traffic violation that should be dealt with by the police. The rest strikes us as not-so-cleverly disguised double-speak.
Oh, those dark-skinned tourists are more than welcome to leave hundreds of millions of pounds during their stay, spending more money per day than anyone else. If only they did so in a nice, quiet and civilized way allowing us enjoy our cup of tea without being tortured by those barbaric sounds. That would be jolly good, wouldn’t it?

It actually shows why these people have cars like this. Obviously it's not because they love to drive them. When you go to that kind of trouble to bring your supercar to a congested city like London it's about showing off. Not about the love of driving them. Honestly, you would go to Germany were you can buy the same expensivr useless status symbol crap and still drive the hell out of your supercar on the autobahn. This just shows, again, that these people have a more money then they have brains. Just plain dumb.

Doubtful mate. We hate scallies as much as the next person, irrespective of skin colour or country of origin. As long as they drive sensibly inside the speed limit - and pay the numerous parking fines they inevitably accrue - I don't care. When they start acting like twats though, we call them out - irrespective of ethnicity.
Indeed, the Muslim Council of Great Britain may have some interesting views on these activities!
Ask your average British drive if they prefer manual or auto and they'll almost always say manual - they're more satisfying to drive and offer a finer degree of control. (I contend that they also allow you to drive more economically - most of my commute braking is done via engine braking and using zero fuel in the coast phase, only very sophisticated auto boxes are clever enough to mimic this behaviour). Think hypermiling for petrolheads. ;-)
Gearbox preferences aside, as I type this our unleaded is an average of $5.10 per US gallon ... so you can see that driving smaller engined cars is a necessity, not just a simple choice. Anyway, our commutes are orders of magnitude smaller than in America - don't forget, our entire country's only about 650 miles top to bottom as the crow flies, England's only about 400! Most of time is spent start-stop not cruising down freeways. Three litre engines are wasted on that.

i love fast and attractive cars - but they have to be reasonable as well. not like a prius, but like a gt3 (even if it is way too expensive). you could use it every day, it has supercar performance and it does only slightly less mpg (at normal, every-day driving) than my 1998 citroen saxo vts. if you like the looks is a different matter. and screw fwd.... it just lacks the emotions.
so, back to the roots - just remember the rwd alfa romeo gtv's or guilias... emotional cars with a beautiful noise and (in my opinion) great to look at. also rwd, a 6cylinder (which is really enough for every day, as long as the car doesn't weigh above 1,4 tons, of course!) and i know, the guilia didn't have a 6c-engine.

All you knob heads need to look up the word "racism" in an English dictionary before you throw it around so easily. Because I do not like something or a group of people because of the way they behave in general does not make me a racist. No one is saying they are superior to Arabs, just that they don't like them. There is a reason for that and it has nothing to do with racism but the way Arabs behave in general. This is not a phenomenon only limited to London. Anywhere they live or go to in the world they seem to cause trouble.

I do agree that it's painful to watch rich foreigners invade your homeland while you're just barely eeking by, paying rent, feeding your kids, paying an extraordinary amount of fees for tuition. Honestly, in Western Society we have screwed ourselves because of our own greed. Our corporations have sold us out and sent us up the river. We have extremely rich CEOs but extremely poor workers, our retailers are one of many horrible examples that outsource jobs to India, Pakistan, etc. Also, our dependence on foreign oil is our own doing too. We really need to tap into the vast resources of our oil reserves in North America. Alberta among many other regions should be the next Saudi Arabi, Dubai, etc. when it comes to wealth in oil production. We have more oil in North America than they do in the Middle East but you idiot environmentalists want to protect everything but our own economy! As far as the noise is concerned, the bobbies aren't doing their job, plain and simple. Hey, I don't mind Arabs as long as they are paying their fair share and not being a pain in the @ss. Otherwise, I'm sure they are helping to buy food, clothes, and other sorts of merchandise from your businesses. If you're rich, then you just need to shutup as you can fly in your jet and be somewhere else or just turn up your Bose audio entertainment system and drown out the noise.
