If you live in Massachusetts and you were thinking of going out today, well, if the massive snow storm heading this way doesn’t stop you, then Governor Deval Patrick’s order banning all road travel effective 4pm today (Friday, February 8, 2013) will.

The statewide travel ban is believed to be the first of its kind since the great Northeast blizzard of 1978.

The Governor made the announcement today after he declared a state of emergency for Massachusetts due to a massive and possibly historic blizzard that could drop as much as 3 feet (about 1 meter) of snow to parts of Boston, Massachusetts and New England in general, according to the National Weather Service.

“This is a profoundly different kind of storm than we have dealt with,” Patrick said. “The demands of recovery we cannot know until the storm is over.”
