Just when you think that the Chrysler Group has run out of ideas for special edition trims, the Detroit carmaker comes out with a new set of models.
Making their debut at this week’s Chicago Auto Show, are the “back-to-basics” Dodge Challenger SRT8 and Chrysler 300 SRT8 Core Editions, and the Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee that returns for the 2013 model year.
The new 2013 Challenger SRT8 Core sports a black grille and black SRT rear spoiler, unique black 392 decal on the front fenders, 20-inch alloy wheels with black painted pockets and black Brembo brake calipers. In addition to the regular colors, the Core model is available with two new finishes named HEMI Orange Pearl Coat and Plum Crazy Pearl Coat.
On the inside, the muscle car’s seating surfaces use the same “Ballistic” cloth inserts from the SRT Viper flanked by dark slate gray “Axel” cloth bolsters and door bolster inserts, plus a mini-carbon bezel instrument panel.
There are no changes under the hood with the 470hp 6.4-liter Hemi V8 linked to either a six-speed manual or an automatic. Pricing for the 2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8 “Core” starts at $38,995 (plus $995 destination).
Featuring the same engine, the new 2013 Chrysler 300 SRT8 Core gets a 6.4L badge on the front fenders, 20-inch cast-aluminum wheels with black painted pockets and standard black or red Brembo brake calipers, while inside, it uses the same combination of “Ballistic” cloth inserts and black “Axel” cloth bolsters and door bolster inserts, along with matte carbon and piano black accents. Pricing is set at $43,995 excluding a $995 destination fee.
The third new model is the 2013 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee that is also powered by a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 delivering 470hp. Besides the 3-D helmeted bee mascot on the new split crosshair grille finished in Gloss Black, there are special fender badges and graphics, as well as 20-inch alloy wheels and black Brembo brake calipers. New exterior colors include the HEMI Orange Pearl Coat and Plum Crazy Pearl Coat. This model is priced from $41,995 (plus $995 destination).
