Scoop: Is This a Fiat Qubo-Based Ram Model or Something Else?

|

There's so much going on with the Fiat-Chrysler Alliance these days that's it actually hard to keep up. The constant changes to the group's product plan don't help either.

At the end of January, for example, Chrysler released a revised business plan for the North American market, axing previously announced models, adding new ones and delaying others.

Adding to the confusing is the appearance of camouflaged vehicles like this prototype minivan, which if we're not mistaken, was filmed by KGP Photography testing in Colorado.

While there's no doubt that it is based on the passenger version of the Fiat Qubo van that was introduced in 2008, we can't say for sure if Chrysler is preparing a North American market variant of the van, and if so, under what brand would it be launched.

The author of the video mentions that it's the new Ram ProMaster, which is expected to go on sale at the end of this year, but it is widely believed that this model will be based on the larger Fiat Doblo van and not the Qubo. What do you think?

I saw this thing this past summer on vaccation. We had stopped at a Subway when this thing pulled up. I wuick went outside and got a few pictures. I wasn't sure what it was though. I knew it was based on the Fiat Qubo/Fiorino, but the front looked like the new 500L. Wonder what it is.

The front panels and headlight arrangement look much like what we've seen so far of the Fiat 500x SUV. Perhaps a test mule for the US version of that model?

Considering the popularity of the Kia Soul, this would be an excellent choice for a new model for North America, and with its sliding side doors and cavernous cargo area, would be great for families with children. It's so much easier putting my grandchildren into my minivan than into my daughter-in-law's PT Cruiser because of the sliding doors. With its short length, this would be a great city car, but with the 1.6 diesel and a big fuel tank, it would also be great for fly-over country, where distances are great and one needs the room for picking up supplies when in town. I'm a retired North Dakota farmer, and I found that my minivan was more useful than a pickup and used much less fuel in the process.
