To the delight of our scoop photographers, the new 2-Series Convertible has made another appearance for the camera, this time while undergoing cold weather testing in Sweden.

In the same way that the 4-Series Coupe and Convertible models are based on the 3-Series chassis, the closed and open-top versions of the 2-Series share their DNA with the latest generation of the F20-codenamed 1-Series hatchbacks.

Practically, what this means is that, while the 2-Series models’ exterior styling and dimensions will differ from those of the compact hatch, the platform, engine lineup and for the most part, the interior, will be common among these vehicles.

As far as the 2-Series Convertible model is concerned, it will keep the cloth top solution and four-seat layout of its predecessor, with engine options at launch to likely start with a selection of 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four diesels (for Europe) and petrols.

Further down the line, we could see the M135i’s force-fed straight six finding its way under the hood of the 2-Series, while there’s also a strong possibility that BMW will offer its xDrive all-wheel drive system as an option with certain powerplants.
