The internet has spoken and the new crazy dance trend set to take over last year’s ‘Gangnam Style‘ is ‘The Harlem Shake’, which has been spreading like a wildfire on the web these past few days and has even touched a chord with the automotive scene.

So, what exactly is “The Harlem Shake”, we hear some of you ask. Well, The Harlem Shake is a dance that reportedly appeared in the Manhattan neighborhood of Harlem in 1981. It is said to have originated from an Ethiopian dance called Eskista.

Following a brief comeback in the early 2000s, it surfaced again this year after people started creating dance videos using the first 30 seconds of “The Harlem Shake” from Brooklyn-based producer Baauer (Harry Rodrigues), who released the song back in May of 2012. In the videos, we see a single person dancing all by himself in the beginning and then, when the bass drops, everyone else joins in.

Now, everyone and their mother are dancing it out and trying to score the most hits on YouTube…even a group of gearheads got together to make a Harlem Shake video during a car meeting in Nebraska. You can check it out along with a few more car-related “Harlem Shakes” clips after the break.
