Today’s eBay find is a 1963 Volkswagen T1 pickup truck nicknamed “shorty” that has been extensively modified for drag racing. First of all, it is 4 feet (1.2 meters) shorter than the originally model, hence the funny proportions and its name.

The owner claims to have spent $60,000 in restoration over a six-year period. Where did the money go? New wiring, brake lines, rubber hoses, brake cylinders, brakes and hubs, alternator conversion, automatic oil cooling system, MSD ignition, ceramic coated headers and many more.

However, the most important addition to the VW pickup is a 4-cylinder 2.2-liter 330 HP engine with two carburetors, mated to a manual Rancho racing transmission. This detail, along with the custom rear wing and larger rear wheels, suggests the car may have seen its fair share of drag racing, although the odometer reads only 5,129 miles (8,254 kilometers).

It even has wheelie bars to prevent it from rolling during strong acceleration and a remote turning key to make it look like a toy car – not that it didn’t already look like one…

“Shorty” also comes with a custom interior with DVD and CD player and is allegedly a National Show and Super Wheels Showdown winner. If you’re interested, the highest eBay bid stands at $11,800.
