We first heard about the new Volkswagen e-Co-Motion Concept on Thursday, thanks to a rendering that surfaced online, and now the German carmaker has made it official.

Set for a world premiere at the upcoming 83rd edition of the Geneva International Auto Show, the e-Co-Motion is a study for a pure-electric van that’s smaller in size than VW’s popular Transporter T5.

It has a length of 4.55 meters (179 inches), a width of 1.90m (74.8 inches) and a height of 1.96m (77.2 inches). In comparison, the Transporter T5’s length ranges from 4.9m (192.6 in) to 5,3m (208.3 in), depending on the version.

The concept vehicle offers a maximum cargo capacity of 4.6 m3 and a payload of 800 kg (1,763 pounds), which VW says was enabled “by clear partitioning of the vehicle body into a lower driving-relevant zone containing an underfloor drive unit, battery and gearbox.”

While the German brand confirmed that, the e-Co-Motion is indeed powered by an electric motor that draws its energy from a battery pack, we’ll have to wait until next week’s Swiss show to learn all the details, as well as if VW has any production plans in mind.
