Following the pilot episode of its new “Cars” talk show, Consumer Reports has released a new video shot on location at the 2013 New York International Auto Show. As you’ve probably guessed by now, the two hosts, automotive engineers Gabe Shenhar and Tom Mutchler, shared their views on the most important cars revealed at the event.

You can hear their straightforward opinions about almost all the New York premieres. For Gabe Shenhar, the most important cars in New York were the Toyota Highlander (although both hosts expressed their concern about ride quality) and the Jeep Cherokee, which Shenhar describes as “the first Jeep built by Fiat.” Obviously, the Cherokee didn’t escape remarks about the front end styling, with Mutchler arguing that former Cherokee owners “would be turning over in their graves” because of the new car’s looks.

The discussion goes on in a similar fashion about other debuts, with the Cadillac CTS being praised by both hosts, who expect it to be a sales success – provided it drives like the ATS. However, they are worried about Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system, about which Shenhar ironically has said in the past it derives from “Crimes Upon Ergonomics.”

Follow the jump to hear what they have to say about the rest of the new cars displayed in New York.
