New BMW X4 Concept: First Official Photos Surface Online

|

This is it; the pre-production version of BMW's next crossover model, the X4, seen in these official photos wearing a concept moniker, which it justifies through the use of some chrome bits, huge alloy wheels and uniquely trimmed bumpers, but other than that, what you see is what you will get when it goes on sale in 2014.

There's no information accompanying the leaked images, but the timing and the fact that the only major international car show coming up this month is the Auto China 2013 in Shanghai from April 21 to 29, means it's our best bet for the world premiere of the new BMW X4 Concept.

The X4 is the smaller-size sibling of the X6 and will also likely be marketed as a Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) by BMW. It is based on the underpinnings of the latest X3 featuring a sportier silhouette with a sleeker looking roofline as well as front and rear ends that both bring to mind the F30 3-Series.

BMW Chief Executive, Norbert Reithofer has said that the X4 will measure around 4.65 meters long (about 183 inches) and use a mix of turbocharged four- and six-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines, all sourced from the X3.

We're guessing it won't be long before BMW comes out with an official release so stay tuned for more.

O dear dear, stop designing cup holder cars and go back to the roots. This is the wrong way BMW.

I detest it almost as much as the X6!

Looks actually not bad. That being said, they need to stop with these crossovers and SUVs, getting a little ridiculous. They'll sell like hotcakes though

sitting far too low for an X

I am not a fan of BMWs, but this one is looking very good !

They should put this front and back design to the current X3.

klowik said... »April 04, 2013

it looks like a jacked-up 3-series.

wheelarches too round for an X

Roofline seems a little high. It works okay on the longer X6, but less so here in stubbier form.

I'm surprised in how "predictable" this version is. BMW has stated that the next X6 will be even farther removed from the X5; it seems strange that the X4 is basically exactly what you'd think it would be. Could stand to be a bit riskier, IMO.

roofline is too round. Should have been edgier like Evoque or Lambo Urus. Here's my quick 2minute photoshop of slightly changed roofline.

Looking at the sloping roof line, rear passengers would have to be really short to sit comfortably. Taller rear passengers would have to become contortionists.

looks nice,but also pretty useless...

It would be nice if whoever were designing these things (X6 and X4) at BMW would go into rehab instead of doing this abomination. These are amongst the most pointless vehicles on the road.

How do you say 'ugly' in Chinese?

lukas said... »April 04, 2013

the car is nice and timeless thanks to the line of the roof in the shape of the bow . It is very expressive what is attesting a lot of comments in the short time.

You are correct. Right now it's too tall and too short. BMW messed up the proportions of many cars lately: look at the 5-series GT, 3-series GT and now the X4. There's something wrong with them.

Now this I like it!!! this styling seems to work better on a smaller suv....

Yeah....you must not have read reviews the X4 from a dynamics standpoint is going to completely outdo teh evoque I like the evoque but lets be serious about what it is...its an overpriced fashion statement with a ford sourced engine, and so so driving dynamics.......the X4 will have the X3s ride and handling(which has been proven already best in class) without the frumpy boring styling...sounds like a win win to me
