You could say that Johan Schwartz is a very happy man these days. Why? Well, because the BMW Performance Center Instructor shattered the Guinness World Record for the longest sustained drift at the BMW Performance Center near Greenville in South Carolina this past Saturday, May 11, 2013.

Actually, disintegrated is a better word for what Schwartz achieved as he topped the previous record set in February in Abu Dhabi at 3.568 miles or 5.74 kilometers, by a whopping 47.71 miles (76.8 km) in an unmodified M5!

Schwartz completed a total of 322.5 laps around the 841-foot (circumference) Performance Center skid pad, providing a total sideways distance of 51.278 miles (82.506 km) in the M-DCT transmission-equipped 2013 BMW M5 Sedan.

“I’m proud for many reasons,” Schwartz wrote on his FaceBook account. “Obviously for the new Guinness Book of World Record Drift, 51.278 miles (82.506 kilometers), but more importantly for the friends and sponsors who were able to make it, giving hot lap rides after the record drift and all the money that was raised for the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation.”

According to BMW, the record-breaking drift attempt generated over $20,000 in charitable donations for The BMW Charity Pro-Am, which benefits more than 150 different charities.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a video from the world record-setting drift attempt, only pictures, though, BMW had released a teaser clip earlier this year, which you can watch below.
