Racing simulator fans rejoice! Gran Turismo 6 has finally been revealed via a trailer and a few screenshots. The game will be available by the end of the year and will continue to build on the huge success of the series, which has sold more than 70-million copies since it was launched 15 years ago.

What’s surprising to some is the fact that Sony has chosen to keep GT6 current-gen, so owners of a PS3 will be happy to know they’ll be able to run the game, without having to wait for and then buy the upcoming PS4.

This means that the older hardware of the ageing console will somewhat hamper the developer’s efforts to make the game look and feel as real as possible – it actually looks very similar in quality to GT5. It gets simplified coding which will allow for easier future alterations to the formula if the need arises, a new graphics engine which “pushes the limits of the PS3,” a new physics engine, as well as even more cars and tracks than before – 1,200 vehicles in total and 33 distinct locations (71 layouts). However, there will also be regular downloadable packs (DLCs) which will increase the number of available tracks/roads and vehicles.

The developer and publisher also aim to make GT6 a more community-driven experience, which will be aided by the sleek new user interface (UI) that players of GT5 have been asking for. Another issue of the old game, the extra-long load times have also reportedly been addressed. Most of the stuff you’ll see in-game will have been recycled and polished up from the previous version, so we suspect that this game too will have Standard and Premium cars, with the former being remnants of GT4, which is a PS2 game…
