As with all the latest incarnations of cars in its category, the next Mercedes-Benz C-Class will be a larger on the outside and roomier inside, according to sources.

Our spy photographers have already spotted the new C numerous times, but official details remain sparse. However, now there’s new information on the car, courtesy of AutoBild magazine , which paints a more accurate picture of what the upcoming compact executive model will be all about.

The report says that while it will not really be compact, growing in size compared to the current car, it will be 70kg (155 pounds) lighter than before. Some complaints regarding rear legroom and trunk space will be addressed with the new car, hence the expected size difference.

The styling will also be tweaked, according to the same source, which says the new model will take its design inspiration from the CLA – we have reservations about this, though, considering the fact that the C-Class needs to have mass appeal, so it should warrant a simpler styling philosophy, because it doesn’t want to attract only younger buyers.

The yet-to-be-confirmed engine range will feature many of the same engines as the current version, with a 154 hp (156 PS) 1.6-liter turbo petrol unit being used in the base C180. The AMG model is rumored to feature a 4.0-liter V8, which may get as much as 455 hp (462 PS). A plug in hybrid electric (PHEV) could also be added to the range too, but it will probably only be available in the sedan version.

Speaking of body styles, let us mention that the next C, codenamed W205, will get the now-standard four-body lineup, including the sedan, estate, coupe and cabriolet models.
