Over the course of the next year, BMW will drop not one, but two mainstream coupe models (along with their soft-top convertible siblings), the 2-Series and 4-Series, which will replace the two door versions of the current 1-Series and 3-Series.

For the time being, only the 4-Series has been officially confirmed to be offered with an “M” variant, but both models will feature an M Performance version in the guise of the M235i and M435i, which build on the 235i and 435i iterations respectively, adding a slightly more powerful engine, a tweaked chassis and aerodynamic parts to the mix.

While the two cars will share the same drivetrain components, it is not clear yet if the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged straight-six gasoline engine will deliver the same output on the two coupe models. For the record, we do expect it to produce 316hp or 320PS on the M235i, just as it does on the M135i hot hatch.
