It’s nice to see that automakers don’t have a dictated policy when it comes to what sort commercial their hired ad men have the freedom to produce. This means the quality of commercials varies, and some are very bad, while others are well-executed enough for their quirky takes to be easily digestible by most.

Take the Brazilian advertisement for the Peugeot 208, for instance, which teleports the characters and vehicles from Hanna-Barbera’s classic Wacky Races cartoon into the modern age and has the French hatchback battle it out with them around a few city blocks.

When I said easily digestible, I was referring to the fact that rehashing old stuff is never really an ideal solution, and using the characters from an animated series that ran from 1968 to 1970 definitely can’t be called creative. What is to be appreciated is the sheer level of detail that has gone into creating the Wacky racers and their chosen chariots. For those familiar to the series, it will be clear that the ad itself was created by people who understood and appreciated it too.

It is also befitting to the car’s character – it is quite quirky-looking modern hatch that in GTi trim tries to revive the well-regarded name of its acclaimed predecessor, the 205 GTi. Now that all of that has been said, do scroll down and click play.
