With so many promising driving and racing games just around the corner, each offering its own specific blend of qualities/features, you’d think newcomers to the genre would be frightened to even try.

However, UK-based Evolution Studios, known for the off-road series MotorStorm, is now moving into on-road racing with what they are calling a mix of social networking and driving/racing, which will try to really create a community around it on which it will feed and grow. It’s called DriveClub.

Set to be launched by the end of this year, the game aims to give the player the experience of open road racing, blended with customization and community elements. Furthermore, as the name suggests, you will be able to create clubs with which you will complete the various tasks you are given – these will also be directly linked to the social networking part of the idea.

Backing up all of this is manic attention to detail when it comes to the cars’ 3D models that are aiming for Gran Turismo 6 quality, though, their count of polygons looks to be smaller, and some round surfaces give this away from certain angles. However, the game as a whole looks very good, and you don’t really notice any of the above when you’re just driving about, especially since the very detailed car bodies reflect their surroundings in a realistic fashion.

When it comes to the actual driving experience, the developers say it’s not specifically designed to be a simulator, as it can be difficult to pick up, but it’s not arcade either – that means ninety-degree corner cutting at 150 mph should not be possible.
