The ever-rising fuel prices we are confronted with have many negative implications, ranging from those we totally understand, to others that are a little more complicated.

In Scotland, for instance, many local businesses are considering laying off some of their staff due to rising fuel costs, and 6 percent of those asked for a recent survey by the Energy Saving Trust said they had actually already started taking action, while 45 percent said energy costs were the most influential negative factor plaguing their business.

Apparently, this has pushed many to use bicycles to commute to and from work, and some electric vehicles have entered use, but their number is far too limited to make an impact, yet. The survey also reveals that around 70 percent of companies have taken the problem up with the employees, and informed them that the problem is being taken seriously, and that some measures may need to be taken.

Still, it isn’t all bad. Now that fuel has become so expensive, people have started refusing to use it, or using less of it, thus spurring on the development of alternatives, not necessarily just in the form of electric cars or regular hybrids.
