Italy’s Automobili Turismo Sport (ATS for short) is a car manufacturer founded by Ferrari F1 engineers in 1962. According to the company, the philosophy behind ATS’ cars is that supercar performance can be achieved by using light materials and compact, high performance engines.

ATS says that’s what the new Sport 1000 is all about. Its chassis is made of stainless steel, paneled in aluminum, and only weighs 55kg (121 lbs) while the body, completely removable in 5 minutes, is made of GRP and weighs 57 kg (125 lbs). The car is available on the market in both FIA/CSAI compliant race and road legal licensed versions.

The ATS Sport 1000 Race version is available as a fully built car or without the drivetrain, in which case, customers can choose between any inline 4-cylinder motorcycle engine to install in the car, from the Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, MV Agusta and Honda range.

As for the ATS Sport 1000 Street, it is available as fully built car with an engine from a Kawasaki Ninja 1000 with over 200bhp. It tips the scales at under 500kg (1,102 lbs) and can be ordered with race specifications pack to be used on both the road and in racing events.

The transmission is a chain drive and the limited slip differential is a Quaife ATB. The suspensions are double wishbones with Teflon bushes and uniballs, with fully adjustable shock absorbers, while the custom design hubs are made from CNC billet aluminum. The SPORT 1000 also has anti-roll bars front and rear, a front honeycomb crash box, a 50mm rollbar, an aluminum tank with explosafe, Sparco 6-point belts and collapsible steering column.

ATS said prices for the Sport 1000 Race start at €24,990 ($33,385), while the Street version begins from €43,500 ($58,110).
