Although Porsche never officially built a drop-top version of the 959 supercar, it doesn’t mean that other people didn’t think about doing it. We have the proof right here – a white 959 that has surfaced for sale in Italy.

Even though at first we were tempted to think this was a 959 replica, a closer look and some “forum digging” revealed this is very likely a genuine 959 – at least from the waist down.

The story goes that a German owner of this white 959 rolled it over its top in an accident and decided to turn it into a speedster once repair work began. We don’t know why anyone would chop the roof off such a rare car (only 337 examples of the 959 were built between 1986 and 1989), but the reality is this is the only 959 cabriolet in existence.

After taking the roof down, the car also obtained a Porsche 911 Speedster windshield, which can be seen in the gallery. However, for some reason, the car now has an original 959 windshield. The 959 was first registered in November 1987, has 8,100 km (5,033 miles) on the odometer and is powered by a twin-turbocharged 2.8-liter flat-six engine developing 450 PS (444 hp).

Despite the fact that the advertised price is €999,999 ($1.3 million), the ad description says the price is not final and a private negotiation is required. If you happen to know more about this particular car, you’re welcome to drop us a comment in the section below or simply send us an email.
