Usually, the bigger a vehicle is, the safer it is, and this it is the reason behind soccer moms buying large minivans and SUVs to make the classic school run.

However, what soccer moms and others who buy SUVs and MPVs for safety reasons don’t really realize is that, while they may carry more inertia during a head-on crash, for example, and will dislodge the other smaller vehicle and let it absorb more of the damage, the center of gravity is considerably higher than in an average sedan, and the vehicle is harder to control and more prone to crashing in the first place.

Just check out the video below. There’s a good chance that if the vehicle hadn’t been a tall Mitsubishi Shogun/Pajero (I could be wrong about the model) , then the side impact it was involved in would not have propped it up on two wheels.

Also, there is a handily placed Smart Coupe, which is a low, wide and relatively stable vehicle. If it had been involved in the exact same accident as the SUV, it would have likely spun, but not flipped…

It’s funny and ironic how the big 4×4 misses it completely, merely folding its driver’s side mirror.
