The Citroen DS was a very advanced car for its day, and for what it achieved in its day and age, it is a highly commendable result. Imagine a modern automaker pushing forward the idea of the car today, as much as it did – the result would probably need wings.

However, if there was perhaps one aspect where the DS wasn’t as good as it could have been were its engines, which were not the last word…in anything, even when it was launched. The original plan for the car was to get boxer engines, but they dropped that in the end due to cost issues.

Still, if you want to get yourself a fast DS today, then head on over to Belgium, with the equivalent of €75,000 / $98,000 and buy this interesting 1966 DS, which has had a significant portion of its body chopped off, obtaining a much shorter wheelbase and only two doors – it’s listed on eBay Germany as being in Belgium.

Its shape is reminiscent of an exaggerated classic Porsche 911, with big wheels and ridiculously short rear overhang. The price is very steep, but you do get a thoroughly modified car, which the seller claims is ready to be driven hard, as it has been specially toughened back in the mid-1970s when it was reportedly turned into its current state.

Power comes from a 2.5-liter engine, which makes around 190 hp and is also specially prepared with heavy duty components like forged pistons and a special camshaft. There’s also a roll cage, a beefed-up hydraulics system with special spheres (Citroen’s answer to springs) on all four corners.
