Following the reveal of the Leon Cup Racer at the 2013 Wörthersee Tour, Seat has released a video showing how the customer sport racecar is built. The car will soon have the license to race, with the first customer sport teams expected to enter the car at various events starting with the 2014 motorsport season.
Using time-lapse photography, the making-of video shows how the Cup Racer is born – from design, technology and aerodynamics to test-driving. The new Leon Cup Racer also gives a strong indication of what a Seat touring car racer might look like.
It will be a base for many touring car series, ranging from ETCC to VLN Endurance Cup on the Nürburgring and culminating with the World Touring Car Championship. With 330 PS (326 hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque coming from a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, the Leon Cup Racer has a preliminary price of €70,000 ($91,800), with the endurance version starting from €95,000 ($124,600).
However, for the WTCC the car will have to swap the 2.0-liter engine for a 1.6-liter to comply with regulations. You can watch how the Leon Cup Car is made in the video below.
