Electric cars may not be the most adrenaline-inducing to watch on a race track, but they sure are effective, especially over short set distances like Pikes Peak, where the change in altitude gives them real purpose – all-electrics produce peak power regardless of how high you are from sea level.

Also, taking a really powerful road-going EV to a track day also makes sense, as does the bewildered expression on the faces of those you are bound to pass – this means you either have to get a Tesla Model S, or take a regular car and modify it like this.

Just check out the video we’ve posted below, in which a Model S owner (not specified whether it’s the Performance version, though, it probably is judging by its pace) takes his all-electric sedan onto the Willow Springs International Raceway and passes pretty much everything, all in silence.

Tesla‘s sole current offering is one of the sneakiest performance cars out there, and does the job very well. There really should be nothing like it on corner exit, where the surge of torque catapults the car out seamlessly, while conventional cars are either caught off boost, or the driver is forced to swap cogs, adding a bit more to the laptime and killing the built-up momentum.
