Japan’s Toyota group said on Wednesday that it will conduct a worldwide voluntary safety recall of around 242,000 Toyota Prius and Lexus HS 250h hybrid vehicles made between March and October 2009 (2010MY), including approximately 87,000 cars in the United States.

In a press statement, Toyota said the involved vehicles “are equipped with a brake pressure accumulator that may develop a fatigue crack on an internal part due to vibration” adding that there have been no reports of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

The automaker said it received around 90 complaints from customers from all over the world, most of whom said that they needed to apply a lot of pressure to the brake pedal and that they noticed increased stopping distances.

According to Toyota, the recall fix will include inspection of the brake booster pump assembly to see if it is equipped with an involved accumulator and if so, dealers will replace the system free of charge.
