While the Bugatti Veyron is the absolute superlative of car ownership, the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse can only be the…superlative of the superlative. With 1,200PS (compared to “just” 1,001PS in the regular Veyron) and the option of open-top driving, the Vitesse is the fastest roadster in the world, as it can reach 410 km/h (255mph). Furthermore, the massive 8-liter W16 engine catapults the car from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 2.6 seconds.
However, while all the performance figures of this car are extreme, it’s really interesting to see how it drives on normal roads. This is the idea behind EVO’s feature with the Veyron Vitesse, the media vehicle for this year’s Mille Miglia classic car event. So yes, after driving a Lamborghini Countach for 1,200 kilometers across Italy, EVO’s Harry Metcalfe drove the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse for three days and 1,000 miles (1,609 km) from Brescia to Rome and back again.
The following video is worth watching at least for the intoxicating engine sound of the Bugatti on the Italian winding roads. Of course, there’s a lot more to it, including what it costs to fill up a Veyron and Metcalfe’s impressions of the car, which were not always positive.
