The Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) releases a yearly report in which it marks out cars that are thieves’ favorite targets.

Up until this point, the top spot among stolen vehicles in the US had been held by the Cadillac Escalade, but now with its popularity not being as high as it used to be, it is not only the buyers, but also the thieves who are looking at other vehicles – that or GM’s suite of new security features work.

Another key development was the fact that “General Motors has put a lot of effort into new antitheft technology, so that may help explain the decline in the Escalade’s theft rate,” says HLDI Vice President Matt Moore.

“On the other hand, sales of the Escalade have fallen in recent years, so there may be less of a market for stolen Escalades or Escalade parts,” General Motors has put a lot of effort into new antitheft technology, so that may help explain the decline in the Escalade’s theft rate,” he added.

Now, highest up on the list of preferences is the Ford F-250, followed by the Chevy Silverado and Avalance, then the GMC Sierra. Make no mistake, though, because while the frequency of Escalade thefts has gone down, its rate is still among the highest on the list, which you can find posted below. Also, it makes one thing very clear – the popularity of pick-up trucks and large SUVs is still very high, regardless if the driver rightfully owns the vehicle or not…
