Chrysler Confirms New 200 Sedan for January 2014

|

We knew for the moment that Chrysler presented the refreshed 200 sedan and convertibles back in late 2010, it was simply a stopgap solution to give parent company Fiat the necessary time to finish the development of a brand-new model using its own hardware.

We had told you about a leaked document back in March saying that Chrysler plans to introduce said successor of the 200 in January 2014, and now, it's official, as the carmaker told reporters on Tuesday that production of the new 2015 Chrysler 200 will begin production early next year at its Sterling Heights plant.

While Chrysler didn't give a precise date when we will see the new model, the world premiere will likely take place either at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show in late November or the 2014 Detroit Motor Show in mid-January.

According to a Reuters report, Chrysler said that the Sterling Heights factory in Michigan is actually preparing for two models, the new 200 and another mid-size sedan expected to replace the Dodge Avenger.

Both mid-size sedans will be built on the Chrysler-Fiat alliance's new CUSW platform sourced from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta that underpins the new Dodge Dart and Jeep Cherokee models.
