There is a recurring rumor that Ford will release a 2014 ½ model year version of the upcoming sixth generation Mustang to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the series and thus pay homage to the first Mustang introduced in April of 1964, which is referred to as a “1964½” model by fans of the car.

The story first came up last November when a Ford rep posted about it on the TheMustangSource forums: “The 2014 ½ will be the 50th Anniversary edition,” the representative stated at the time. “It will be added to production for a limited run sometime during the year.” However, she soon backed away saying it wasn’t so, and “Okay, we made a mistake. We misunderstood the information and we’re sorry for causing all this confusion.”

Now, the same rumor has re-surfaced at Mustangdaily, which cites an inside Ford source who said that the 2014 ½ is still in the works and that the Blue Oval is considering a limited run of 1,000 cars without providing any information on what special features will set the car apart from the regular Mustangs.
