Somehow, this little gem of a news story slipped us by for a few days, but now we’ve found it and are covering it for your entertainment and information, or whichever of the two is the resulting feeling after having read the entire piece…

So, apparently Sony is already hard at work on making a feature film adaptation of their popular Gran Turismo racing/driving game series. Hollywood insiders The Wrap are saying that the Japanese giant has enlisted the help of producers Mike De Luca and Dana Burnetti, best known recently for their work on the big screen adaptation of the erotic paperback novel “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

Now, while we don’t expect any (female) college senior to fall for wealthy young entrepreneurs in the announced Gran Turismo movie, the two producers’ vast experience in the field (confirmed after checking their respective IMDB pages) should ensure the move is at least interesting, and hopefully better and more involving to watch than the last (scarcely) car-related movie we all saw and were anything but blown-away by…

Nonetheless, trying to take a glimpse into the future, we expect the very serious (and frankly quite cold) approach of the GT developers, Polyphony Studios, to rub off onto the film itself, and factoring in the GT Academy thing they have going on, it will quite possibly follow a young racing driver rising through the ranks, behind the wheel of a whole host of different and increasingly powerful Nissans. Let’s hope I’m wrong, though, because unless there are some seriously cool plot twists in there, it has a high chance of failing to impress. Let’s just hope the first trailer, when they do get around to making it, won’t start with “this summer…”

Now check out the very long video I posted below, to see why I say the movie will be like that – there is a lot of emphasis on blending the game with the GT Academy experience, and the movie may reflect it too. Finally, Keanu Reeves was chosen for the mock-poster as I think that he would have been perfect for the leading role in this upcoming movie, some 10 years ago (the protagonist needs to be young, if the GT Academy theme does materialize).
