Infiniti Delays Introduction of New EV for After 2015 to Add Better Tech

|

Infiniti's take on the electric car and more specifically, it's version of the Nissan Leaf, which was previewed with the LE concept at the 2012 New York motor show, has been delayed as the Japanese automaker said it pushed back the 2015 launch date in order to implement more sophisticated technology into the sedan.

Andy Palmer, Nissan's head of global planning broke the news to Autonews Europe and while he wouldn't provide an exact date, he said that the delay will not be significant and it’s still with the brand's mid-term plan.

The high-ranking Nissan executive said the company needs more time for the development of certain core components, including wireless induction charging, which will be one of the highlights and main selling points of the Infiniti model, as well as new lithium ion battery technology that provide a greater driving range at a lower cost than today's batteries.

While based on the platform of the Leaf sharing the same 106.3 inch wheelbase (2,700mm), the production version of the Infiniti LE will be a bigger (and more luxurious)  model measuring 186.4 inches (4,735mm) long, 71.1 inches (1,805mm) wide and 58.5 inches (1,486mm) tall.
