While some automakers are finding increasingly clever means of promoting their cars, there are still those who really take great enjoyment in doing everything by the proverbial book, even with all the inherent downsides.

It doesn’t really get more cliché than throwing together a bunch of driving shots with juxtaposed sound that never matches, featuring always good-looking business men and patronized women in the passenger’s seat, and generally selling the image of what the company thinks the ideal buyer is like.

This holds true for most manufacturers, as they probably use the same ad agencies, which in turn copy from one another – the result is plain to see, and the latest promo released by Maserati for their new BMW 5-Series fighter, the Ghibli, does genuinely perpetuate it.

Sure, the car is stylish and according to reviews it also drives, stops and sounds the part, so here come Maserati promoting in the same way that BMW does for its executive sedan – you would not have noticed anything wrong if this had been a BMW ad.

Lastly, I’m pretty certain that the first part of the video, the one showing the blue car and the first driver, was most likely shot here.
