If you want a rare mid-engined classic that is not all that expensive, yet retains a certain exclusivity and has eye-catching styling, the DeLorean is definitely an option. Made famous all around the world through cinema, the car itself never came to fully realize the dream of John DeLorean, and only around 9,200 examples were manufactured in 1981 and 1982, of which around 6,500 are believed to still be in existence.

One of the cars, which had been in storage since 1985, was recently been purchased by The Soking Tire and Drive’s Matt Farah. His example is a very low-mileage car, which for all intents and purposes, is complete (though, not completely assembled – some bits were not attached to the car, yet they do exist and came with it), and he is leaving the work up to Humble-based DMC Texas.

Restoration work will take up to three months, by which time the ageing interior will be freshened up, damaged exterior panels will be changed, and the engine will be given the firm’s “Stage 2” tune, which uses old-style tuning techniques and the addition of some higher-grade components to make the DeLorean’s uninspiring engine  be more of a center piece for the driving experience.

Now scroll down and watch the video below, to hear Farah’s explanation as to why the DeLorean is so special and how he came about buying this particular example.
