When the current-gen Skoda Superb was first revealed, it looked awkward and mildly disproportionate, with wrong headlights. However, if you ask me, photos don’t do it justice, and in the metal it’s considerably better – one couldn’t call it particularly stylish, even after its recent facelift, which tried grafting the new family look onto its face, but even so, it does seem to have aged well…

That’s a problem because current chief designer Jozef Kaban, did not take part in the actual process of drawing up the car, which was released as he joined the company in 2008.

For comparison, the only two cars Skoda currently sells that were created under the supervision of Kaban are the new Octavia and Rapid, both of which have a fresh new edge over the brand’s old ways. Now, AutoExpress reveals that the Czech manufacturer’s flagship model will get striking styling, which will give the motoring press “something to write about.”

We’re intrigued as to how a car designed to be have a simple, fuss-free shape, with the same kind of minimalistic approach as that standing behind the look of an iPhone, could also be striking at the same time… The result will definitely be interesting – the Czech design boss seems keen to make it “appeal to families, to the rich in money and also the rich in other things, but has to be classless. And you’ll see it soon.”

Until then, we’ll get to see more of Jozef Kaban’s own work at the Frankfurt motor show, which has been officially confirmed as the venue chosen to unveil the Rapid Spaceback (estate/wagon). In addition, an all-new Fabia will make its appearance “in early 2014,” and it “will be a really good-looking car.”
