Did you know that Opal is a mineraloid that forms as a gel in cracks of many different types of rocks? We’re not exactly sure how that relates to a new version of the Nissan GT-R, but it does lend its name to the special edition, production of which will be limited to 100 pieces worldwide.

What we do know is that it comes with a new exterior body color dubbed ‘Midnight Opal’, which Nissan says, “is an exterior finish that can only be seen in the most exotic of supercars” and that “the finished surface sparkles like a jewel, and how the coloring is perceived changes depending on light conditions and viewing angle”.

All Opal models are fitted with a dry carbon fiber rear spoiler and forged aluminum wheels with a hyper-titanium coating, and also feature a gold model number plate within the engine compartment.

There are no other changes to the car that continues with the 545hp 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 of the 2014MY.
