This is one of those stories that makes grown men find excuses of the sort “you won’t believe what happened; dust just blew from the window and landed straight into my eyes!”. You’ll soon see what we mean by that.

It all begins in 1972 when Rick Lookebill brought his first ever car, a brand-new Ford Mustang MACH 1, which he kept until 1989, when he was forced to sell it, and continues in 2013, when his son managed to track down the muscle car and returned it to his dad in an admittedly, very emotional handover.

To keep the moment forever, the thoughtful son filmed the surprise arrival and captured his dad’s reaction on camera, which you can watch below for yourself after reading his account of the story and then perhaps, like us, head to the ebay Motors classifieds for a quick look at 1970s Mustangs…

“24 years ago my dad, Rick Lookebill, had to part ways with his first car, a 1972 Mustang MACH 1. Over the years he has talked of wanting to locate it and we even ran across it once in Clinton, Illinois in 1999. Recently, he has had a “spark” in his interest of finding it and we were able to locate it for him three weeks ago. However, all he knew is that we located it…there is much more to the story however. This car belongs to no one but him and he deserves to have it back in his possession. So…we acted on that and brought the car back home to Indiana from Florida this week and put the keys back in the hand they belong in. Oddly enough…nothing has been done to the body of the vehicle since he watched it leave his house 24 years ago!! Today, needless to say, was a GREAT day!!!!”
